The Federal Government is to slam $2 billion (N360 billion) fines on erring oil companies over gas flaring in Nigeria’s oil rich region between January 2012 and January 2014. A source at the Presidency said that the Ministry of Environment had already briefed President Goodluck Jonathan on the modalities to ensure that these fines are paid without shortchanging government and the companies.
