NEW GAS POLICY CREATES $51BN INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN SECTOR


Nigeria’s latest gas policy encapsulated in Ibe Kachikwu’s 7Big Wins has created $51 billion worth of investment opportunities in gas processing, transmission and general infrastructure in midstream and downstream operations of the sector. Nigeria’s epileptic power supply has created opportunities to build more power plants, as the current 22 have not assuaged energy needs.

NUPENG GIVES FG 21-DAY ULTIMATUM OVER JOB LOSSES

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers on Wednesday issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to prevail on International Oil Companies operating in the country to stop mass retrenchment of oil workers.
 
The National President of NUPENG, Mr Igwe Achese, stated this at the end of a meeting of the union’s Central Working Committee held in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
 

RECESSION: CHEVRON, MOBIL, OTHER IOCS STYLISHLY SACK 3,000 WORKERS

The workforce in Nigeria’s oil industry has been depleted by 3,000 employees following the sack of personnel by firms in the industry, two oil unions have said. The mass sacks, it was gathered, resulted from the economic recession in the country.

Some of the companies that laid off their staff are Chevron, ExxonMobil, Pan Ocean, Sapiem, and Hercules Oil and Gas Ltd.

SENATE COMMITTEE BACKS NLNG TRAIN 7 PROJECT

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Gas, Senator Bassey Akpan, has pledged the support of the committee to the proposed Train 7 expansion project of the Nigerian LNG Limited. Akpan stated this when he led members of the committee on an oversight visit to the NLNG facility in Bonny.
 
A statement signed by the General Manager, External Relations, NLNG, Dr. Kudo Eresia-Eke, quoted Akpan as saying the committee would do all within its power to sustain the NLNG legacy and encourage the entrenchment of its business model in other sectors of the economy.

ANALYSTS PREDICT MIXED FORTUNES AS NIGERIAN DOWNSTREAM SECTOR DIVESTMENT INCREASES

Analysts predict mixed fortunes as Nigerian downstream sector divestment increasesAnalysts are adducing different reasons for the recent divestments in the downstream sector of the Nigerian oil and gas industry. Shortly after details filtered in that Nipco Investments Limited is buying 60 percent stake in ExxonMobil’s downstream operations, industry operators confirm a media report that Total Nigeria has already received over a dozen interests for its downstream assets. Analysts say possible reasons for these divestments could be due to harsh operating environment in the downstream sector compounded by slump in crude oil prices.

GAS SUPPLY SHORTAGE WORSENS AS GENERATION RISES TO 4,202.7MW

Gas plantBut for gas supply challenges, which constrained over 3,321 Mega Watts (MW) of electricity, the nation’s total electricity generation would have hit 7,529MW in the last one month.

Although, the country is presently generating 4,202.7MW, which was made possible by the contribution of hydro power plants, this is less than the installed capacity of 11,165.40MW of electricity in the country.

KACHIKWU: NIGERIA WILL SOON CLOSE $4BN INVESTMENT DEAL WITH CHINA

Ibe KachikwuThe Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, has said that Nigeria will soon close the deal on a $3 billion to $4 billion loan from China that will be channelled towards the provision of infrastructure in the oil and gas sector.
 
Kachikwu made the disclosure at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held in the State House, Abuja wednesday, adding that the loan was a fallout of the July roadshow held by the petroleum ministry and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in China.

NNPC STEPS UP OIL EXPLORATION IN CHAD, BENUE BASINS

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation on Monday said it had stepped up its exploration of crude oil in the Chad Basin, Benue Trough and other frontier basins. It said the crude oil to be drilled from the frontier basins would serve as reserves for Nigeria.
 
The corporation expressed its readiness to partner stakeholders in the oil and gas industry to grow the nation’s fast depleting external reserves in order to increase productivity in the petroleum sector
 

NNPC: NIGERIA NEEDS TO PRODUCE 15BN SCF/D OF GAS TO INDUSTRIALISE ECONOMY BY 2020

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has said Nigeria will need to produce up to 15 billions standard cubic feet per day (sbcf) of gas to ensure that her national goal of turning her economy into a fully industrialised one by 2020 is realised.
 
The NNPC said yesterday in Abuja that for this to happen and also become sustainable, the country would have to increase its oil and gas reserves. It said the current reserves of the country would only take it for 35 years. NNPC’s Group Managing Director, Dr. Maikanti Baru, said this when the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) hosted him to dinner at the weekend.

GAS: NNPC SAYS 326.80MSCF/D SUPPLIED TO POWER STATIONS

Oandos-128-Km-gas-pipelineThe Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, says about 326.8 million standard cubic feet, MSCF, per day of gas was supplied to gas-fired power plants in the country in June.

This represents about 59.41 per cent of the total 550.10 million SCF per day of gas supplied to the domestic market during the month.

FG OWES OIL FIRMS $8.1BN IN CASH CALLS

The Federal Government owes oil companies at least a total of $8.06bn in unpaid cash calls, as the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation failed to pay $3.06bn in the first seven months of the year.
 
The nation’s oil and gas production structure is majorly split between Joint Ventures onshore and in shallow water with foreign and local companies and production sharing contracts in deepwater offshore.

FG, STATES’ REVENUE TO DIP FURTHER AS NNPC SEEKS TO USE ROYALTIES, TAXES TO FUND JVS

FG, States’ Revenue to Dip Further as NNPC Seeks to Use Royalties, Taxes to Fund JVsIn a move certain to raise eyebrows reminiscent of the outcry over the proposal on the sale of the country’s strategic oil and gas assets, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has said that it is working on new modalities that would allow it to fund its joint venture (JV) cash call obligations in the future, as well as pay off the arrears on the JVs from oil and gas royalties and taxes.
 
It said under the planned model, such payments would be deducted through a first line charge, implying that this will leave less funds to the three tiers of government to share.

NIGERIA’S OIL, GAS EARNINGS FALL TO N537.19 BILLION

Gas plantThe Federal Government earned N537.19 billion from oil and gas export during the second quarter of 2016, according to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The apex bank, in its second quarter economic report, said that this was lower than the provisional quarterly budget and the receipts in the preceding quarter by 39.2 per cent and 19.4 per cent, respectively.

REPS TO INVESTIGATE $17BN UNDECLARED CRUDE OIL EXPORTS

The House of Representatives on Thursday ordered a probe of the $17bn worth of allegedly undeclared crude oil and liquefied natural gas exports to foreign countries.
 
The decision followed the adoption of a motion sponsored by Mr. Agbonayinman Ehiozwa at the plenary session of the House presided over by the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara.

GAS FLARING KILLS 13 IN DELTA COMMUNITIES

Gas flaring PHOTO: daniumenergy.comNo fewer than 13 lives have been lost in the last two months to gas flaring in six communities of Warri South West and Ndokwa West councils of Delta State.The communities include Koko, Diagbene, Kwale, Abbe, Utagbe-Uno and Ebede.

Warri South West chairman, Mr. Sheriff Mulade, who spoke with newsmen yesterday in Asaba, urged the Federal Government to be tough with multinational oil companies over their refusal to end flaring, insisting that they must be compelled to adhere to best environmental practices.

NNPC RENEWS COMMITMENT TO GAS DEVELOPMENT

NNPC TO SUPPORT NGA DELIVER ON NIGERIA’S GAS RESOURCE

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), will support the Nigerian Gas Association (NGA), achieve its objectives of ensuring that the country derives maximum benefit from its huge gas resource base.
 
Maikanti Baru, goroup managing director of the NNPC, speaking on Thursday in Abuja while receiving the NGA delegation led by its President, Bolaji Osunsanya, at the NNPC noted that as the midwife of the nation’s premier gas association in 1999, the NNPC has a moral and strategic interest in ensuring the continuous existence and sustained growth of the association.

LADOL ADVANCES IN $3.8B EGINA FPSO VESSEL CONSTRUCTION

Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Bala UsmanThe Lagos Deep Offshore Logistic (LADOL) Base is blazing the trail in the quest for local capacity development in the country, as it advanced with the construction of the world-class Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel.

The Indigenous oil and gas logistics firm is currently working on the sections of the FPSO at its Free zone base in Apapa.The Managing Director of LADOL, Dr. Amy Jadesimi, said the yard is where the first ever locally fabricated Floating Production Storage Offloading (FPSO) project took place.

NIGERIA EARNS N1.7 TRILLION FROM CRUDE OIL EXPORT IN Q2

The Minister of State for Pretroleum Resources Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu PHOTO: TWITTER/NNPCDespite calls for diversification of Nigeria’s revenue base to other sectors like manufacturing and agriculture, oil and gas accounted for 92.9 per cent of the country’s export earnings during the second quarter of 2016.

Specifically, out of the N1.872 trillion of export earnings by the Federal Government during the second quarter of 2016, oil and gas accounted for N1.735 trillion or 92.9 per cent of the total export value.
