TOTAL SEES PROMISING FUTURE DESPITE CEO’S SUDDEN DEATH

French oil giant, Total, has said it will continue to move forward despite the sudden death of its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Christophe de Margerie.

The firm said on its website on Tuesday that its position was hinged on de Margerie’s dreams, which were focused on moving the company forward.

BRITISH COURT BLOCKS SHELL AGREEMENT ON RIVERS COMMUNITY

A High Court in London has blocked an agreement between the oil giant, Shell Petroleum Development Company and a UK law firm, CW Law, in relation to thousands of residents of Bodo community in Rivers State, which the firm claimed it represented in a dispute over oil spills.

The President of the Technical and Construction Court, Justice Robert Akenhead, blocked the deal and upheld an injunction against CW Law, which prevents them or anyone representing them, to make contact with the people of Bodo in furtherance of the settlement agreement.

TOTAL MOVES TOP GOLFERS TO PORT HARCOURT FOR CHARITY

The 2014 edition of Total’s annual golf charity tournament tees off at the magnificent Air Assault Golf Course in Port Harcourt on Saturday, 11 October 2014. The tournament is designed to raise funds for improvement of facilities in selected local charity homes, a notice placed by the oil giant has disclosed.

14 LEGAL CASES STALLED EXXONMOBIL SPECIAL PROJECTS IN AKWA IBOM

Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State has expressed concern over fourteen legal cases instituted against American oil giant, ExxonMobil by the host communities.

The governor made his feelings when the Chairman/Managing and Lead Country Manager of ExxonMobil Companies in Nigeria, Mr. Nolan O’Neal, visited him in Government House, Uyo.

NIGERIA EARNS $40BN FROM OIL EXPORTS IN SIX MONTHS

NIGERIA has been estimated to have realised about $40 billion (N6.4 trillion) from crude oil exports in the first half of this year, according to the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). 

The 12-nation member cartel, in its revenue fact sheet, however stated that the Africa’s oil giant has net earnings of about $84 billion in 2013.

TOTAL TARGETS 1,000MW SOLAR POWER PROJECT IN NIGERIA

French oil giant, Total targets to build solar power plants that will generate 1,000 megawatts in Nigeria as part of the company’s efforts to address the power supply challenges in the country.

The Managing Director of Total Upstream Companies in Nigeria, Mrs. Elisabeth Proust told THISDAY in a recent interview that Total had decided to focus on one type of alternative energy in Nigeria, which is Solar.

According to her, the company started in many countries in West Africa, Asia and the Middle East by providing energy to the people with no electricity.

NUPENG THREATENS FRESH STRIKE …ACCUSES CHEVRON OF BREACHING AGREEMENT

The Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) said it was resuming the strike it suspended early in July this yesterday for breach of agreement.

NUPENG members had been spoiling for war over alleged improper retrenchment of American oil giant, Cheveron Nigeria Limited, claiming that the company had refused to bend despite intervention by the Federal Ministry of Labour.

TOTAL BUILDS $900M PIPELINE TO SUPPLY GAS TO ALAOJI POWER STATION

Hope for improvement in power supply in Nigeria has been rekindled as French oil giant, Total has stated that it has built a $900 million worth of pipeline infrastructure to supply gas from the company’s Oil Mining Lease (OML) 58 to the 964 megawatt-capacity Alaoji Power Station in Abia State.

The new Managing Director of Total Upstream Companies in Nigeria, Mrs. Elisabeth Proust, who confirmed this investment to THISDAY at the weekend, however, stated that for the investment of such magnitude to be economic in Nigeria, the price of domestic gas should be increased from its current level of $2.5 to $7 per million British Thermal Unit (BTU).
