CHINA FINE-TUNES OIL DEALS WITH FG, SEEKS SOVEREIGN GUARANTEE ON INVESTMENTS

China Fine-tunes Oil Deals with FG, Seeks Sovereign Guarantee on InvestmentsNigeria and China on Tuesday began to put finishing touches to the multi-billion dollar oil deals both countries had initiated, and which will see Chinese firms invest heavily in Nigeria’s energy sector.
 
But while the terms in the business deals are being worked out, the firms have indicated that they would be requesting a sovereign guarantee from the Nigerian government to back their planned investment on pipeline construction.

OIL AT $52 WILL HELP ECONOMIC RECOVERY - REWANE, OTHERS

crude oilAs the global crude oil benchmark continued to trade above the $50 per barrel mark on Tuesday, economic and energy experts said the price rally would help soften the recession rocking the country and support economic recovery.
 
They, however, described as more important the need to ramp up the nation’s crude oil production, which has been significantly disrupted by the recent upsurge in militant attacks in the Niger Delta.

COURT RESTRAINS NPDC, NNPC FROM TERMINATING AGREEMENT WITH ATLANTIC ENERGYA Federal High Court in Abuja has restrained the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company Limited (NPDC) and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) from taking any step in terminating agreement they have with Atlantic Energy Drilling Concepts Nigeria Limited and Atlantic Energy Brass Development Limited owned by businessman, Jide Omokore, in respect of the Oil Mining Leases (OMLs) 26, 30, 44 and 42 (Forcados assets) and OMLs 60, 61, 62 and 63 Brass assets).

OIL PRICES SLUMP 1% AS OPEC'S OUTPUT HITS EIGHT-MONTH HIGH

Oil prices fell about one per cent wednesday after the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) reported its September oil output at eight-year highs in its monthly Oil Market Report (OMR), thus eroding optimism over the carte’s pledge to bring a global crude oil glut under control.
 
This is coming as energy ministers from Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Venezuela and Russia yesterday began informal closed-door talks with the Secretary General of OPEC, Mr. Mohammed Barkindo, in Istanbul, Turkey, as part of the coordinated efforts to rebalance the oil market.

OIL MAY HIT $60 PER BARREL THIS YEAR

Oil price hits one-year high at $53Saudi Arabia’s Energy Minister Khalid al-Falih has said that the price of crude oil might hit $60 per barrel this year, following the decision of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to cut global production.
 
This is coming as the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, monday gave his support to international efforts to reduce oil supply and boost prices in the clearest sign yet that Russia might participate in moves to cut or freeze output.

CRUDE OIL SLUMPS ONE DAY AFTER OPEC DEAL TO CUT OUTPUT

Despite the decision of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to cut crude oil production by 200,000-700,000 barrels per day to achieve price recovery, oil prices fell yesterday after the gains recorded on Wednesday.

This was just as Royal Dutch Shell on Thursday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, launched its “#makethefuture” programme, where it unveiled six new technologies from different youth entrepreneurs around the world to provide sustainable and cleaner energy than conventional energy sources.

UNDECLARED OIL SHIPMENT: FG SUES AGIP, TOTAL FOR $635M

The Federal Government is demanding $635 million from two multinational oil companies, Agip and Total, for undeclared crude oil shipped out of the country between 2011 and 2014.
Two cases have been filed at the Federal High court in Lagos by senior lawyer and Senior advocate of Nigeria, Professor Fabian Ajogwu, who had handled several cases for the Federal Government on aviation, defence, energy, and financial services.

U.S. IMPORTS 234,000 BARRELS OF OIL FROM NIGERIA

U.S. imports 234,000 barrels of oil from NigeriaThe United States (U.S.) imported about 234,000 barrels of crude oil from Nigeria in the month of June 2016, according to the country’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).
This is however, a drop from its crude oil imports from Nigeria in May and April, which were 241,000 and 218,000 respectively.

NIGERIA, OTHERS RECORD LOWER REFINERY EARNINGS

Oil refineryGlobal refinery earnings were lower in second-quarter of 2016 compared with the same period last year and are converging among different locations globally, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

The agency said in a statement at the weekend, that the price difference between crude oil and petroleum products contributed to declining profits for some refiners compared with 2015.

OPEC REVENUE TO PLUNGE FURTHER TO $341 BILLION IN 2016

AFP Photo/Alexander Klein) Based on United States (U.S.) Energy Information Administration (EIA) price forecasts, revenue of members of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), is expected to fall to $341 billion in 2016.
The agency, which believed that the revenue could still increase to $427 billion in 2017, put the cartels earnings in 2015 at $404 billion in net oil export revenue in 2015, representing a 46 per cent decline from $753 billion earned in 2014.

EIA EXPECTS NIGERIA’S OIL PRODUCTION TO REMAIN LOW TILL 2017

NIGERIA MAY LOSE OVER $25B TO NLNG ACT AMENDMENT

The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) has warned that any move to tinker with the 2004 Act would violate bilateral agreements with international investors as well as cost the country a whooping $25 billion in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and fines running in billions at the International Courts.

The outgoing Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NLNG, Babs Omotowa, said this in Lagos yesterday at the National Association of Energy Correspondents (NAEC) Annual Conference.

BUHARI DIRECTS NNPC TO SEARCH FOR OIL IN BENUE TROUGH

Muhammadu BuhariPresident Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to begin to search for crude oil and gas from the Benue Trough, NNPC’s Group Managing Director, Maikanti Baru, disclosed tuesday.
 
Baru said in Abuja that the president’s directive was part of efforts by his government to guarantee energy security for the country, through oil and gas mining from other parts of the country outside the Niger Delta.

NNPC CONSIDERS CRUDE IMPORTATION FROM CHAD, NIGER REPUBLIC FOR KADUNA REFINERY

As part of the efforts to address frequent disruptions to the supply of crude oil to the Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemical Company (KRPC) as a result of the Niger Delta militancy, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is considering importing crude oil from Chad and Niger Republic, investigations by THISDAY have revealed.
 
This is coming as the President of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and Qatar’s Energy Minister, Mohammed Al Sada, has stated that oil prices would rebound during the third and fourth quarters of 2016.

IOCs KEEN TO BUY CRUDE FROM LAGOS OILFIELD

Several international oil companies and trading houses have expressed interest in purchasing the crude produced from Aje field located in Oil Mining Lease 113 offshore Lagos.
 
One of the partners, Panoro Energy, an independent exploration and production company with assets in Nigeria and Gabon, stated this in an update on the field, which achieved first oil in early May 2016.

INCREASED OUTPUT IN NIGERIA, MIDDLE EAST CONSOLIDATES OPEC’S MARKET SHARE

OPECThe International Energy Administration (IEA) said that record pumping rates in the Middle East and recovering flows in Nigeria have helped to consolidate the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) market share.

IEA, which made this declaration in its July oil market report, stated that global oil supplies rose by 0.6 mbpd in June, to 96 mbpd, after outages curbed OPEC and non-OPEC supplies in May, while production was 750 kbpd below as higher OPEC output only partially offset non-OPEC declines.

EA: OVERSUPPLY REMAINS A MAJOR DAMPENER ON OIL PRICES

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has reported that oversupply of crude oil in the international market has refused to ease, thus acting as a dampener on the prices, despite the robust growth in demand.
 
This is coming as the prices fell wednesday by over four per cent on after the United States government stunned the market with a raft of bearish inventory data that added to concerns over a global glut of oil.

OPEC MEMBERS’ NET OIL EXPORT EARNINGS MAY CRASH TO $341 BILLION

opecThe United States (U.S.) Energy Information Administration (EIA) has projected that members of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) net oil export revenues could fall from the $404 billion it earned in 2015 to about $341 billion in 2016.

The EIA, which made this disclosure in OPEC revenues fact sheet released yesterday, stated that the cartel’s revenue declined by 46 per cent from the $753 billion earned in 2014 to $404 billion, mainly as a result of a precipitous fall in average yearly crude oil prices during the year.
