Total Nigeria Plc said it has introduced a new Solar Home Solutions to be implemented in pilot phases for households throughout the federation. The innovation, according to the company, is in line with its commitment to explore alternative energy solutions in a bid to bring respite to homes and help the nation solve the electricity supply crises.

NIGERIA LOSES OVER $1BN FROM GAS FLARE FINES

The Federal government’s promise of a more accurate estimation of total gas flared in the country is coming to fruition as initial statistics from a new technology, the Nigerian Gas Flare Tracker, which was recently launched by a consortium of Nigerian and United Kingdom partners, has placed the total volume of gas flared annually in Nigeria at 318,588,060.00 million standard cubic feet (Mscf).

WIND FARMS CAN STORE AND DELIVER SURPLUS ENERGY

The worldwide demand for solar and wind power continues to skyrocket. Since 2009, global solar photovoltaic installations have increased about 40 percent a year on average and the installed capacity of wind turbines has doubled. The dramatic growth of the wind and solar industries has led utilities to begin testing large-scale technologies capable of storing surplus clean electricity and delivering it on demand when sunlight and wind are in short supply.


A team of Stanford researchers have looked at the "energetic cost" of manufacturing batteries and other storage technologies for the electrical grid. An issue is whether renewable energy supplies, such as wind power and solar photovoltaics, produce enough energy to fuel both their own growth and the growth of the necessary energy storage industry.
