OGONI CLEAN-UP: SHELL URGES GOVT TO STOP VANDALISM

The Shell Petroleum Development Company has urged the Federal Government to halt the activities of petroleum pipeline vandals and illegal crude refiners in Ogoniland, to make the planned clean-up of the area a success.

 

Quoting the United Nations Environment Programme report, the oil major said treating the problem of environmental contamination within the space merely as a technical clean-up would ultimately lead to failure.

SCORES DIE IN NNPC PIPELINE EXPLOSION IN AREPO

For the umpteenth time, another explosion was recorded on Wednesday at one of the pipelines of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) at the Arepo area of Ogun State and purportedly killed several pipeline vandals.

The incident, which is merely one in a series of acts of pipeline vandalism at the Arepo area, occurred after some vandals exchanged gunfire.

SCORES FEARED DEAD AS FIRE GUTS NNPC PIPELINE IN LAGOS

LAGOS—Scores of  suspected pipeline vandals were Thursday feared killed in a massive inferno that gutted a petroleum pipeline belonging to Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, at Ijedodo area of Lagos State.

NNPC RECEIVES 720 DRUMS OF STOLEN PMS

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has handed over 20 drums containing 250 litres each and 700 kegs, each containing 30 litres of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS), to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The Lagos State Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the NSCDC, Assistant Superintendent Mefor Chibuzor, said in a statement yesterday that the products were recovered from suspected oil pipeline vandals on the high sea at Iwoko, Adjido, Ebute Olofin area of Badagry Local Government between July and October.

NAVY ARRESTS 50 PIPELINE VANDALS

The Western Naval Command (WNC) of the Nigerian Navy (NN) has arrested no fewer than 50 suspected pipeline vandals in an ongoing major operation at Majidun, Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

This is in addition to their recovery of about 6,000 gallons of stolen products siphoned from several vandalised Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) pipelines.

NNPC RECORDS 3,571 PIPELINE BREAKS IN 2013

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) recorded 3,571 pipeline breaks in 2013 due to the activities of vandals and oil theft in the country, Group Managing Director of the corporation, Dr Joseph Dawha, said on Thursday.

Speaking on at the National Association of Energy Correspondents’ 2014 Conference in Lagos, Dawha who was represented by Francis Amego, the Executive Director, Commercial, Pipelines and Products Marketing Company Ltd (PPMC), a subsidiary of NNPC, said that the activity of vandals was first recorded in 1999 with 497 pipeline breaks.  He added that it increased to 3,571 in 2013.
