BAYELSA SENDS PROTEST LETTER TO AGIP

The Bayelsa State Government has sent a protest letter to the Nigerian Agip Oil Company complaining about the pollution of the state’s environment as a result of alleged oil spillage from the firm’s facilities.

 

In the letter, which was addressed to NAOC’s Managing Director, by the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Iniruo Wills, the government noted with dismay what it described as the rate of spillage in the state.

NNPC PIPELINE EXPLODES AS VANDALS STRIKE AGAIN

An explosion on Tuesday rocked the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) pipeline at Ije Ododo area of Lagos State, after some vandals again tampered with the pipelines. This is coming barely two weeks after the vandals ambushed and shot in cold blood, five policemen deployed to secure the area.

Also, recall that in February, a similar incident had occurred in the same area when some vandal damaged another pipeline at Ije Ododo at two different spots, leading to massive spillage of petrol.

FG TASKS OIL INDUSTRY OPERATORS ON OIL SPILL

The Federal Government has urged oil and gas companies operating in Nigeria to partner with it towards eradicating oil spillage and its harmful effect on the environment.

The Minister of Environment, Mrs. Lawrencia Mallam, called for the partnership during the inauguration and handover ceremony of the Geographic Information System laboratory stationed at the headquarters of National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency in Abuja.

She said operators in the sector must join hands with the government to ensure safe and cleaner environment.
