BAYELSA GOVT WARNS ERRING FIRMS ON OIL SPILLS

The Bayelsa State Government has warned business operators, especially oil firms operating in the state to strictly comply with guidelines for oil spill response to avert further environmental degradation.

The state warned that stiff penalties await any firm that fail to adhere strictly to its directive as it was no longer ready to tolerate any violations henceforth.

TOTAL NIGERIA MOBILISES TO SECURE SABOTAGED OIL EXPORT PIPELINE

Total Exploration and Production Nigeria has disclosed that the Joint Investigation Visit, JIV, team which visited the oil spill reported at Kilometer 25 and 27 locations on the Obagi – Rumuekpe oil export pipeline recorded that the incident was due to third party sabotage.

The company disclosed that the Joint Investigation Visit, JIV, was carried out in accordance with the extant regulations, at the oil spill locations, with relevant regulatory agencies (DPR, NOSDRA, Rivers State Ministry of Environment).

OIL SPILL: TOTAL SHUTS PRODUCTION FROM OBAGI FIELD

Total E&P Nigeria Ltd (TEPNG) has stopped expedition of crude on its Obagi – Rumuekpe 12” Oil Export Pipeline in Rivers State.

During crude oil expedition operation on 16^th of August 2015 an abnormal situation was observed as the oil expedited from Obagi was not received at Rumuekpe metering station. Expedition was immediately stopped and a helicopter over-flight was carried out, which revealed oil spill and fresh excavations on the pipeline Right Of Way.

Relevant authorities have been informed.

In view of the highly volatile nature of the area and the security concerns, we are working with the Nigerian Security Agencies to secure the location and provide safe access for intervention teams.

The volume of oil spilled and area of impact have not been estimated.

 

NOSDRA THREATENS TO SANCTION SHELL OVER $3B FINE ON OIL SPILL

THE National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) has threatened to sanction the Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), for failure to pay $3.6 bilion fine for damages to the livelihood of host communities through its massive oil spill.
The oil spill monitoring agency alleged that SNEPCO spilled about 40,000 barrels of crude oil from its Bonga oil field due to technical failures but failed to clean up within the stipulated period by the law.

AGAIN, AGIP OIL SPILL DEVASTATES BAYELSA COMMUNITIES

A massive oil spill from the Ossiama-Ogboinbiri and Ogboinbiri-Tebidaba pipelines of Nigerian Agip Oil Company has devastated the environment of Keme-Ebiama, Okpotuwari and Ondewari communities in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

It was gathered at the weekend that the oil leak, which spewed volumes of crude oil from the ruptured spot on the oil-bearing pipe was reported by community people on the July 14,2015.

VICTIMS OF AGIP PIPELINES EXPOLSION IDENTIFIED

Victims of the Agip pipeline explosion that claimed 12 persons along the Tebidaba-Clough Creek line in the Azuzuama area of the State were on Sunday identified.

Among them were staff of the Bayelsa State Ministry of Environment and the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), six staffers of a maintenance team of a local oil servicing company known as M.G Vogas Nigerian Limited, two members of Agip staff and a soldier.

MONARCH DENIES MISMANAGEMENT OF N1.3BN OIL SPILL COMPENSATION

The paramount ruler of Ibeno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Owong Effiong Achianga, has dismissed allegation of fraud leveled against him in the disbursement of the N1.3 billion oil spill palliative fund paid by ExxonMobil to cushion the effect of oil spill in his domain.

IJAW COMMUNITIES HEAD TO S'COURT IN $1.5BN OIL SPILL SUIT

The Leaders of Ijaw community in Bayelsa State are heading for the Supreme Court over the $1.5 billion oil spill and environmental degradation suit against Shell Petroleum Development of Nigeria, which was struck out by the Federal Appeal Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The leader of the Ijaw group, Mr. Pere Ajuwa, disclosed in Abuja at the weekend, during a press briefing on the court’s judgment.

FARMERS TAKE SHELL TO COURT OVER OIL SPILL IMPACT IN BAYELSA

Farmers impacted by the Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, Kolo Creek oil fields spill in Otuasega, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, have gone to court over the April 15, 2015 spill, which polluted their farms.

According to the farmers, they were excluded from a Joint Investigation Visit to probe the impact of the spill despite their attempt to draw the attention of the team to their impacted farms.

MASSIVE OIL SPILL OCCURS AT SHELL'S CRUDE PIPELINE IN BAYELSA

A massive oil spill has occurred on a pipeline belonging to the Shell Petroleum Development Company (Shell) in the Kolo Creek oil field operation in Bayelsa State a company official has confirmed.

Mr. Joseph Obari, SPDC spokesman, on Wednesday stated that the oil giant would react to the development in due course, even as he refused to explain the cause of the spill.

168,000 FISHERMEN AFFECTED BY 2011 BONGA SPILL – MONARCH

No fewer than 168,000 fishermen in 350 communities of Bayelsa and Delta states were affected by the 2011 Bonga oil spills. In 2011, an oil spill from Bonga offshore, operated by Shell Nigeria Production and Exploration Company, left the communities devastated.

 

The Paramount Ruler of Olobia community in Koluama, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Chief Howells Levi, said in an interview on Monday in Yenagoa that fishermen were mostly impacted by the spills.

BONGA OIL SPILL: HOUSE ORDERS SHELL TO PAY $3.6BN FINE

The House of Representatives has directed Shell Nigerian Exploration Company (SNEPCo) to pay the sum of $3.6 billion or N604.832 billion for the damage caused by oil spill from its equipment failure almost four years ago  in Bayelsa State

The House Committee on Environment gave the directive during an investigative public hearing on Wednesday, citing the breakdown of an independent value analysis it adopted, which totalled N63.6 billion, payable for direct losses (irreversible damages) the community incurred.

OIL SPILL: 350 SHORELINE COMMUNITIES GIVE SNPECO 3-DAY ULTIMATUM

WARRI—Shoreline communities in Bayelsa, Delta and Ondo states affected by Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company, SNEPCo’s, 2011 oil spill at Bonga, have given the company a three-day ultimatum to commence and conclude the agreed joint dialogue of multiple stakeholders, as ordered by the House of Representatives Committee on Environment or face their wrath.

BONGA OIL SPILL: SHORELINE COMMUNITIES GIVE SHELL ULTIMATUM

Victims of the December 20, 2011 Shell Bonga oil spill have given the oil major till the end of November to compensate them for damaging their livelihood or face the repercussions.

This followed the alleged refusal of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) to implement environmental safety measures of the federal government and compensate victims of the spill which affected Ondo, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa and Rivers
