GOVT RECEIVES N9.6 TRILLION FROM SHELL IN FOUR YEARS

The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) paid $48 billion (N9.6 trillion) revenues to the Nigerian government from 2010 to 2014.

Also, the company paid $3 billion (N600 billion) share of royalties and taxes to the Nigerian government in 2014, with $1.8 billion from SPDC and $1.2 billion from Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company SNEPCo in the year under review.

'INDEPENDENT OIL FIRMS AVOID PAYMENT OF ROYALTIES, TAXES'

The independent oil and gas companies may have been infringing on the nation’s petroleum regulations with the high level of defaults in payment of royalties and taxes on the operated oil fields.

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), which revealed this at the ongoing Nigeria Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition (NOG) in Abuja, yesterday, said the indigenous upstream operators have failed to perform their operational obligations, particularly in the areas of taxes and royalties.

NEW EUROPEAN LAW MAY EXPOSE NIGERIA’S CORRUPT OIL DEALS More light is set to be shed on Nigeria’s murky oil sector as a new anti-corruption rule comes into force this week in the U.K.

The UK is the first member state to implement the EU Directive on Extractive Industries, which requires detailed disclosure of a range of payments, including taxes, royalties and dividends made to governments on a country and project basis as of January 1, 2015.
