Navy to prosecute officials involved in oil theft

The Nigerian Navy yesterday declared total war against oil theft, warning that any naval personnel assisting or participating in the theft would be arrested and prosecuted.

PIRATES KILL NAVAL OFFICER IN BAYELSA STATE

Dare-devil pirates operating along the rivers and creeks of the Niger Delta over the weekend shot dead a Naval officer in Akassa area of Brass Local Government, Bayelsa State.

The gunmen were said to have opened fire on a Naval crew on a routine patrol at a checkpoint in Akassa area of the state on Saturday. The area is the notorious corridor used by oil thieves and foreign vessels to steal Nigeria oil.

NAVY HAS ACHIEVED DRASTIC REDUCTION IN CRUDE OIL THEFT – JIBRIN

The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Adm. Usman Jibrin, has said that the Nigerian Navy in the last one year has achieved a drastic reduction in crude oil theft.
 

Jibrin who was represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Rear Admiral Johnson Olutoyin stated this during the Inter-Denominational Church Service, marking the 59th Anniversary of the Nigerian Navy, at the All Saints Protestant Church, Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja.

GULF OF GUINEA: NN, 21 OTHER COUNTRIES, MOVE TO CHECK PIRACY, OIL THEFT

In a move to checkmate activities of piracy and crude oil theft in the Gulf of Guinea, the Nigerian Navy,NN in collaboration with 21 other countries, among them , the United States of America and United kingdom, are to engage in a maritime security exercise tagged ‘Operation Obangame Express’.

The exercise is billed to commence on March 19 to March 27, 2015. Briefing journalists on the exercise which opening and closing ceremony will be held in Ghana, the Flag Officer Commanding,FOC Western Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy, Rear Jonathan Ango, explained that the objective of the exercise was among other things to access the ability of the partnering units to conduct maritime support operations, with emphasis placed on regional framework.

NAVY DESTROYS TWO ILLEGAL REFINERIES IN RIVERS

In its determination to end oil theft in the country, the Nigerian Navy has set ablaze two illegal refineries in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The Base Operations Officer of the Nigerian Navy Ship Pathfinder, Port Harcourt, Commander Chido Yahaya, also disclosed that two Cotonou boats laden with stolen crude oil were similarly set ablaze.

NAVY INTENSIFIES WAR AGAINST OIL THEFT

PORT HARCOURT—Nigerian Navy has intensified its crusade against oil theft in the Niger Delta region  with an approach  it termed “choke points” strategy.

Flag Officer Commanding Naval Training Command, Rear Admiral Goddy Ayankpele, yesterday, during a facility tour of the Nigeria Navy Basic Training School, Onne, Rivers State, said they were recording huge success with the new strategy.

NAVY ACCUSES IOCs OF AIDING OIL THEFT

The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin, has accused International Oil Companies (IOCs) of aiding and abetting all forms of criminality in the nation's maritime sector, especially crude oil theft, illegal bunkering and piracy.

Jibrin stated this yesterday in Abuja during a meeting with chief executives of the IOCs at the naval headquarters' conference room to discuss issues on crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism and other related crimes in the nation's maritime sector.

NNPC SEEKS STRONGER TIES WITH NAVY ON MARITIME SECURITY

THE Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr. Joseph Dawha, yesterday sought sustained relationship with the Nigerian Navy (NN) to enhance smooth operations of the Corporation.

Dawha stated this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Usman Jubrin, in his office yesterday.

The GMD, who had been visiting security chiefs to seek sustained partnership with the Corporation, said the visit to the CNS was just another one to seek strengthened collaboration with the Nigerian Navy to protect the maritime area of the country, especially as it relates to oil and gas.
