NLC CHIEF WARNS FOREIGN OIL FIRMS AGAINST DISRESPECT OF LABOUR LAWS


Leading labour leader, Issa Aremu has urged international oil companies (IOCs) operating in Nigeria to ensure decent work conditions for their workers in tune with the nation’s laws. Aremu was speaking yesterday against the backdrop of the recent three-day warning strike called by the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

NLC TACKLES CHEVRON OVER ANTI-LABOUR PRACTICES

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is angry with the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) over ill-treatment of workers. Its Delta state wing has called on Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan to order the company and its contractors to desist from engaging in “mindless” anti-labour practices.

The body’s state chairman, Comrade Williams Akporeha, in Asaba, said, “the persistent casualization and wilful dismissal of workers” by the company and its contractors has placed the management of the company and the union on war path.
