FINALLY, NERC, BPE VALIDATE GEOMETRIC POWER’S RIGHT OVER ABA

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) have both validated the rights of Geometric Power Aba Limited, to generate, transmit and distribute power to and within the Aba and Ariaria districts in Abia State.

This is coming after months of legal wrangling between Geometric and another private power firm, Interstate Electrics, over who owns the rights to operate in the area.

NIGERIA: BUHARI CAN CANCEL POWER PRIVATISATION – NERC BOSS

The chairman, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr Sam Amadi, has said that there is the possibility that the incoming government of General Muhammadu Buhari can undo the privatisation of the power sector.

Amadi who stated this during an interview in his office in Abuja, in response to the question whether such was possible, said, “Everything is possible; there’s no impossibility with government to, through due process or through extra-legal actions, reverse any policy or decision.”

ABUJA BUSINESS SOCIETIES PROTEST HIGH ELECTRICITY TARIFF

Business groups in Abuja on Friday protested the hike in electricity tariff by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.

The groups, under the name Co-operative Business Societies of Abuja, in a protest letter signed by its Coordinator, Mrs Maricel Romero, said the increase would ruin business in the city.

They appealed to the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Federal Ministry of Power to intervene in the interest of the public.

NERC ASSURES OF DISCIPLINE, CORPORATE GOVERNANCE IN ELECTRICITY SECTOR

The Nigerian electricity supply industry has attained the much-awaited transitional stage electricity market, whereby wholesale buying and selling of power are based on contractual and regulatory rules.

 

According to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, the contract-based power market is sequel to its directive to all electricity market participants on the commencement of the transitional market.
